PURPOSE
Through this website, I will be introducing you to two books that I have throughly enjoyed. The Giver by Lois Lowry and When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead are two young adult novels that would be a great addition to a literature classroom. The Giver is set in a dystopian society where "sameness" is the way of life. When You Reach Me is a novel that follows a young girl who is getting letters from a mystery person who seems to know what is going to happen next.
I will provide more information on these novels along with in depth descriptions of the authors, introductions to the texts, teaching challenges, and other resources and activities. I hope you enjoy learning about these novels as much as I enjoyed studying them!
Because reading is such a vital part of education, I have provided some of my personal Readers Rights that will be implemented in my classroom.

Welcome! My name is Sydney Garner. I am junior at Columbus State University studying middle grades education with a focus on English and science. I aspire to teach either fifth or sixth grade English. I have always had a love for literature and want to help students enjoy literature also. Outside of the field of education, I love being outdoors. I enjoying taking my dog on hikes with any free time that I have.
